Project: Creating a Whisky commercial with Wex Photo Video and Blackmagic Design

For over 20 years Blackmagic Design have been disrupting and driving forward the video production technology industry. Firstly with their video converters, followed by the acquisition of DaVinci Resolve, a Hollywood-level colour grading software, later developed to add video editing functionality and now more recently, in the cinema camera realm.
You can imagine our excitement when our friends at Wex got in touch, asking us to put the brand new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro through its paces by creating a short brand video for the rising stars in liquor, East London Liquor company.
With what ended up being only 4 hours to tour and capture the brewery, surrounding area and grab a piece to camera with the talent, we got cracking.
The ELL team took us behind the scenes into the brewing room to see the process at its infancy, then touring the exterior of the building and the lush greenery and Chinese pagoda of Victoria Park. We set up shop in the restaurant nextdoor to shoot the interview with Joe from ELL, making use of the out-of-hours look, rustic brick walls and Frankie and Benny’s, vibe suiting the indie style of ELL.
Using the P6K Pro was a liberating experience, coming from using the earlier version without a flip screen, no built in NDs and a pretty dim screen. It’s at home on a gimbal as much as it is handheld or even rigged out and the new features really lend themselves to those shooting styles, it feels a lot more complete and fun to use now.
