Aura Innovation Centre
Pre-Production, Production, Post-Production
We’ve produced content for the Aura Innovation Centre and the University of Hull for a number of years, but never anything this exciting. The centre was to host the UK’s first-ever Festival of Green Innovation, and we were given the task, in collaboration with HPSS and Sowden and Sowden, of making this happen. Our task was to produce the VTs for the show, then provide the camera setup and team for the live broadcast. We had our work cut out for us!
Being fairly experienced in live broadcast thanks to our adaptation to the pandemic, we knew exactly what to do. We figured out the best way to shoot the VTs and when we’d need to have them signed off by in order to fit them into the programme schedule, and then we worked with the show’s producers to coordinate the broadcast, covering elements such as guest positions and cues for VTs. After a day of preparation, we were ready to go live.
For the production of the VTs, we visited the AIC and met up with some of the talented people who work there. We documented the different areas of research and development around the building and filmed a virtual tour with the programme’s host, Kofi Smiles. We put these VTs together and sent them off to the producers for approval. Once approved, they were sent to be inserted into the programme schedule. The day before the broadcast, we headed over to the AIC for a run-through and to go over the broadcast schedule. Once we were all prepared, there was nothing left to do but wait until the following day!
On the day of the broadcast, everything went off without a hitch. The host and guests were fantastic, the entire crew did a great job, and the show achieved an amazing number of viewers. It’s always exciting to be the first to do something, to help pioneer a project that could have a huge impact on the future, and the Festival of Green Innovation certainly has the potential to do just that.
